You will study the civilisations of both Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome learning about their history, political systems, culture and the conflicts that they were involved in.
You will develop your analytical, research and communication skills in your investigation of contemporary sources, as well as your ability to evaluate and assess evidence.Ancient History complements other evidence-based subjects, such as History, Politics and Law. It is also possible to combine Ancient History with Classical Civilisation.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Mathematics. You do not need to have studied GCSE History to take this course.
Year Two:
You will have access to a range of teaching materials through the student portal. You will have a range of learning activities, including lectures, workshops, presentations, group work and role play. We tweet a range of articles to help extend learning. We offer an annual residential trip to either Athens and the Peloponnese or Rome and Naples.
There are two examinations – one on Greece and one on Rome. Examination techniques will be taught throughout the course.
You can progress to Higher Education and study for a degree in ancient history, archaeology or classical studies. Ancient History also provides an excellent background for any other subject that involves assessing and evaluating evidence such as law, politics, history and critical thinking. Employment is often directly related to history and the ancient world, such as museum and gallery work.
