A HND consists of 16 units of study, where 8 or more have been completed in the HNC.

The course will include units such as:

  • Material Resource Planning
  • Engineering Materials
  • Further Analytical methods
  • Personal Professional Development
  • Project Management
  • Quality Assurance
  • Business Improvement Techniques
  • Design for Manufacture
  • Managing Health and Safety

These are the standard units offered. We can also discuss a more individual study program, which could incorporate units from Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical or Manufacturing engineering courses. This level of study requires additional hours allocated each week outside of college for research and writing reports. We would recommend studying these 8 units over 2 years.

HND courses are taught by a team of specialist subject lecturers, supported by a tutor. Classes are informal and incorporate a variety of teaching and learning methods e.g. discussion, lectures, group work, practical sessions, etc.

The assessment procedure for each unit involves in course tests, end-of-unit tests and the carrying out of a programme of assignments.

The teaching and support was absolutely brilliant, they couldn’t have done anything more or anything better, if I had any questions my lecturers would always stay behind to help me if I needed it and their emails were always open, it was second to none. This college is the best by far.

Amber Searle, BTEC student

I got into both of the universities I wanted to. It happens so fast and it’s an amazing feeling when you think that all of the work you’ve done has paid off in the best way possible.

Anton Sukhorukov, A Level student

My courses were all especially interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. All of my lecturers were extremely knowledgeable and I have learnt a lot from them.

Lottie Warren, A Level student

Completion of the course can lead on to a Foundation Degree or a University Degree in any one of a number of engineering disciplines.

A key progression path for Edexcel BTEC HNC and HND learners is to the second or third year of a degree or honours degree programme, depending on the match of the Edexcel BTEC Higher National units to the degree programme in question.
