It is recommended that students have a strong interest in this subject and recent study experience. This course is very fast-paced and will require you to spend approximately two to three hours a week on reading, preparing material or writing assignments.

On this course you will work towards the production of a Controlled Assessment folder, worth 40% of the overall grade. This folder will consist of two pieces of original writing, a response to a prose text and a spoken language investigation.

The preparation for this work will take place in the classroom but will be completed under exam conditions. Students will also participate in group discussions and deliver presentations.

Classes run on a weekly basis and homework tasks will be set to support topics studied. Analysis of texts and writing tasks cover a range of skills including writing from imagination and for specific purposes.

The course is assessed through Controlled Assessment, a range of Speaking and Listening tasks and an exam. The exam is worth 40% of the overall grade and will examine reading and writing skills.

My experience at the college was great, it’s very different to school, and I think it’s a good step to going to university. The support was amazing, I loved all of my teachers, they helped me through everything. The college is friendly and you will succeed.
