Overview

This course will provide the necessary practical skills and a qualification for learners to pursue a wide variety of careers in the IT industry. 

It will also help prepare students who wish to progress to the Digital T Level Programme with its focus on software engineering or networking infrastructure. 

This course also places an emphasis on employability skills (including Maths and English) which are embedded into your studies.

The course has been developed by employers and teaching staff to deliver the essential skills required when working in Digital IT or progressing to the T Levels.

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language and Mathematics.

On this course you will study:

  • Working in the IT industry
  • Computer Systems
  • Communication
  • Setting up an IT network
  • Computer Programming
  • Cloud Solutions
  • Projects
  • Web design

Plus a customer-based project including cyber threats and mitigation

Within these units you will also be taught employment skills as well as a focus on Maths and English to help develop your confidence and knowledge when working in the IT industry.

You will gain important IT skills such as the ability to setup a computer network, selecting suitable hardware components and building a PC for a client. Programming will be taught using Python coding and PM software used to understand how to setup and manage projects. You will also study the importance of Cloud Computing and how to go about identifying threats and cyber security issues. 

Each week, you will study the various units through theory, demonstration, and practical activities.

Course assessment is carried out using a variety of methods such as written work, video, discussions, and presentations. 

You will also be complete a week of work experience with a local employer to gain an insight into the world of work.

All of the units will be assessed through assignments and will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

On successful completion of the course, learners with an overall grade of Merit or Distinction and tutor recommendation may progress to the full T Level programme, apply for a Level 2/3 Apprenticeship or head out to employment.
