This Extended Diploma course at HSDC South Downs is designed to help you gain an understanding of business and how it operates. This course will develop your employability skills through an industry placement. There is also an opportunity to gain an Edexcel Level 3 Extended Project Qualification. You will learn by completing projects and assignments based on authentic workplace situations.
This qualification has been approved by a number of professional bodies such as – Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). This course is suitable for you if you want to progress onto their approved courses at the appropriate level.
You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English Language and mathematics. Alternatively, you will have a BTEC or CTEC Level 2 Diploma at Merit grade.
During the first year of your Extended Diploma you will complete six different units, two of these units will be assessed via exam. The remaining units will be assessed via the completion of assignments throughout the academic year. During Year 2 you will complete a further five compulsory units, two of which will be assessed via exam. Additionally, you will choose one pathway from the following options: Enterprise; Law; Finance; Marketing and complete two specialised units within your chosen pathway.

Your lecturers will use a variety of innovative learning strategies including blended learning, video and audio sessions, group discussions, industry professionals and employer site visits.
Developing practical business skills and the entrepreneurial mindset is at the core of our courses and the College Enterprise Society. Evolve work closely with students to achieve this via mentoring, support and guidance.
In collaboration with the University of Portsmouth, you will take part in a recruitment and selection day.
Assessment will comprise of three methods -internally assessed assignments, controlled assessment and examinations.
All units are assessed using a grading scale of distinction (D), Merit (M) and Pass (P). The combination of grades you achieve over two years will give you an overall grade spanning from PPP to D*D*D*. This grade can be converted into UCAS points.
The qualification will provide the opportunity to progress to higher-level apprenticeships, employment or to a higher education degree or HND course.
HSDC South Downs will organise industry placements with reputable employers within appropriate business sectors. The College has professional links with the following employers - BAE, Lockheed Martin, Southern Co-operatives, KPMG, Harwin, Victorious Festival, SSE and Aramark.
