This course will explore elements of Business and IT and will help you develop key skills to enable you to seek work or further study. You will learn in a coaching-style environment where you are encouraged to learn through individual effort and teamwork. This course will also help to grow your self-confidence. You and your fellow students will come from a wide variety of backgrounds. This Level 1 is an ideal platform to help you in your next steps. Not only will you attain the qualification, but you will also strengthen your English and Maths skills.
Employability skills you will develop include:

– Planning and organising work, money, activities and events
– Team working
– Basic IT skills
We hope that this course will spark ideas and ambition for further study or career plans.
No formal qualifications or prior knowledge of the subject is required. Suitability will be discussed at interview.
On this Level 1 course at HSDC South Downs, you will study:
HSDC offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches and support. You will have access to all of these, including the Learning Hub (library), careers advice and health and wellbeing, to name a few.
We teach in a small class of approximately 10-15 students and work in a caring and collaborative way with a nominated tutor. Lessons are mostly done on PCs and we use our Google Education suite, working through units of study until they are complete, through the use of PowerPoint presentations and worksheets with some independent research and study. There are three to four teachers and some students have additional staff to support them. Work experience and visits are a part of the programme.
You will be assessed through the completion of projects and assignments.
Previous students have gone on to full time work following completion of this course, as well as the Level 2 Business Enterprise and Retail Diploma and other Level 2 courses, such as IT and Media.
Your tutors have worked in banking, economic development, manufacturing, retail, charity, public sector and project management. HSDC South Downs has many employer links locally and will work with you to develop your contacts.
