Overview

Develop the knowledge and awareness needed to support individuals with specific learning difficulties (SpLDs) through this fully funded online course.

The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties is ideal for both individuals and employers looking to upskill their workforce. This course provides a strong foundation in understanding a range of specific learning difficulties, how they are identified, and how to effectively support those affected.

Learners will also explore the strengths and positive contributions of individuals with SpLDs, alongside the barriers they may face in education, work, and everyday life.

There is an expectation that you would have a minimum of Level 1 English or skills at that level prior to enrolment.

You will study the following areas:

  • Unit 1: Signs, symptoms and diagnosis of Specific Learning Difficulties,
  • Unit 2: Sources of information, support, legislation and guidance relevant to Specific Learning Difficulties,
  • Unit 3: Living with a Specific Learning Difficulty,
  • Unit 4: Best practice relating to Specific Learning Difficulties.

Once you have enrolled on the course, you will be allocated a tutor and assigned to your learning platform. An induction will follow and then you will be able to commence your course.

You will be assessed by submitting individual units of work and will receive feedback for each unit as you progress. There is no final exam.

On completion of this course, you will be ready for the workplace or have enhanced your existing work skills. You could progress on to any other distance learning course or look at the Level 3 options.

The staff that will be supporting you through this course have sector expertise.

I overcame a couple of barriers by working really hard to get the top grades. My experience was really good, with the course and the lecturers, the residentials and activities, together it was all really good. I had really great teaching support, I could always go to the lecturers and speak to them if I needed to.

David Stenning, Public Services student

I’m really happy and pleased with my grades. I really loved my time at the college, I have also made lots of friends, it’s a really nice place to be, I don’t want to leave.

Lauren Piper, A Level student

I would say it’s a college that really balances academia with fun, there is lots of extra-curricular stuff that you can get involved in. It has a really good work/life balance.
