Overview

This qualification is aimed at employed learning support staff in primary (reception included) and secondary schools. It will enable the learner to build knowledge, understanding and skills needed for a support role within a teaching environment. This is a part time course for experienced learning support staff working in schools. Inexperienced assistants would be advised to enquire about level 2 Certificate Support Teaching and learning in Schools.

It is advisable to be employed as a learning support assistant within a school environment.There are no formal entry qualifications for this course however you will need an appropriate level of English (GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent).

On this course you will study: Communication and professional relationships with children and young people and adults. Schools as organisations Support learning activities Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour Develop professional, relationships with children, young people and adults Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people. Support assessment for learning Engage in personal development in health social care or children and young people’s settings Support children and young people health and safety Understand children and young people development Understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young peopleTo achieve the whole qualification, the learner must successfully complete all eleven units

You will be taught in the college environment outside of the work place, using a variety of teaching methods.

You will be required to complete one assignment for each unit, you will also need to show competence within the work place relating to stated criteria. All units are internally assessed; the minimum grade to achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is a pass.A variety of teaching and assessment methods will help you complete the units. You will be encouraged to share good practice with other support staff in group discussions.

Upon completion of this course you are able to progress to a Higher Level Teaching Assistant(HLTA) qualification.
