If you’re interested in starting a career in childcare or want to gain a deeper understanding of how to support children and young people, our Level 2 Certificate in Introducing Caring for Children and Young People is the perfect place to begin. Delivered entirely online through flexible distance learning, you’ll explore a range of key topics, including child development, play, nutrition and safeguarding, helping you build the essential knowledge and confidence needed to support children in a variety of settings.

Please contact adultlearning@hsdc.ac.uk for specific entry requirements. To enrol on this Adult Learning course you must be aged 19 years or over.

Unit 1: Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, Unit 2: Understanding how play forms part of a child’s development, Unit 3: Using food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet, Unit 4: Understanding how to use play to support early learning and development.

Once you have enrolled on the course, you will be allocated a tutor and assigned to your learning platform. An induction will follow and then you will be able to commence your course.

You will be assessed by submitting individual units of work and will receive feedback for each unit as you progress. There is no final exam.

On completion of this course, you will be ready for the workplace or have enhanced your existing work skills. You could progress on to any other distance learning course or look at the Level 3 options.

The staff that will be supporting you through this course have sector expertise.

My courses were all especially interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. All of my lecturers were extremely knowledgeable and I have learnt a lot from them.

Lottie Warren, A Level student

The tutors were really supportive and it was all thanks to them that I have achieved what I have. I’ve also made loads of great friends and really enjoyed my time at the college.

Lizaveta Sinkerich, A Level student

My experience at the college was enjoyable and productive, with thoroughly helpful people surrounding you, an excellent experience. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was, with the work shop time and experience I had, it was a great two years preparing me for the next stage.

Edward Smith, BTEC student
