Overview

This Level 2 course is designed to help you develop a comprehensive understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will learn about the different types of needs and disabilities, how they affect learning and development, and the best ways to support individuals in educational and care settings.

Ideal for those working or volunteering with children or adults who have SEND, this course provides essential knowledge and skills to enhance your effectiveness and confidence in support roles.

There is an expectation that you would have a minimum of Level 1 English or skills at that level prior to enrolment.

To enrol on this Adult Learning course you must be aged 19 years or over.

You will study the following units:

  • Unit 1: Introduction to specific educational needs and disability (SEND),
  • Unit 2: Understand equality and diversity in the context of SEND,
  • Unit 3: Principles of promoting person-centred approaches for individuals with SEND,
  • Unit 4: Understanding SEND and learning,
  • Unit 5: Living with special educational news and disabilities (SEND).

Once you have enrolled on the course, you will be allocated a tutor and assigned to your learning platform. An induction will follow and then you will be able to commence your course.

You will be assessed by submitting individual units of work and will receive feedback for each unit as you progress. There is no final exam.

On completion of this course, you will be ready for the workplace or have enhanced your existing work skills. You could progress on to any other distance learning course or look at the Level 3 options.

The staff that will be supporting you through this course have sector expertise.

I would say it’s a college that really balances academia with fun, there is lots of extra-curricular stuff that you can get involved in. It has a really good work/life balance.
