Overview

This qualification is designed for you if you wish to raise awareness of mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental health. This qualification gives you the opportunity to understand mental health, its associated care and how this can be applied to learners or colleagues in the workplace. Workers within a wide range of public service roles may interact with those with mental health issues and support needs in their day-to-day work across a number of sectors.

There is an expectation that you have a minimum of Level 1 English or skills at that level prior to enrolment.

You will cover the following three units on this online course:

Unit 1 – Exploring mental health

This unit will introduce you to different types of mental ill-health. You will understand factors which may contribute to mental ill-health and actions that can be taken.

Unit 2 – Understand how to support individuals with mental ill-health

The aim of this unit is to understand how to support individuals with mental ill-health. You will understand your responsibilities and how to protect your own mental health.

Unit 3 – Understand a mentally healthy environment

You will know about relevant legislation. You will understand mentally healthy environments and wellness action plans.

Once you have enrolled on the course, you will be allocated a tutor and assigned to your learning platform. An induction will follow and then you will be able to commence your course.

You will be assessed by submitting individual units of work and receive feedback for each unit as you progress. There is no final exam.

You could progress on to any other distance learning course or look at the Level 3 options.

The staff that will be supporting you through this course have expertise in Health and Social Care and Education.

The teaching and support was absolutely brilliant, they couldn’t have done anything more or anything better, if I had any questions my lecturers would always stay behind to help me if I needed it and their emails were always open, it was second to none. This college is the best by far.

Amber Searle, BTEC student

My experience at the College was great, it’s very different to school, and I think it’s a good step to going to university. The support was amazing, I loved all of my teachers, they helped me through everything. The College is friendly and you will succeed.

Heidi Adamson Brattland, A Level student

I’m really happy and pleased with my grades. I really loved my time at the college, I have also made lots of friends, it’s a really nice place to be, I don’t want to leave.
