On this course you will study techniques such as the Graham, Release and Cunningham techniques as well as Jazz and Classical Ballet. You will have opportunities to perform in public shows and attend theatre trips.

Minimum of five GCSEs including English at grade 4 or above or, a Merit grade from a Dance Level 2 Diploma plus English GCSE at grade 4 or above.

Some dance experience is essential before starting the course. All students are auditioned to ensure the course will meet their needs.

You will perform in three public shows per year in our College Theatre, participate in workshops from professional dance companies, attend educational theatre visits and choreograph and perform in Havant & South Downs College’s Rock Challenge.

Students will typically be expected to learn and repeat phrases and exercises in Contemporary and Ballet classes, until their assessments which will either take place in a class setting in small groups, a solo set study or in a group within the show.

Within Jazz classes, students are expected to come to limbering and strengthening classes as well as perform a variety of routines in the show.


This is weighted as 90% practical course and 10% theory. There will be some evaluations at the end of each assessment.

Students are required to buy their own Uniform, and pay for any trips that will run throughout the course including Rock Challenge (optional).
