Overview

The Operations and Departmental Manager Apprenticeship is aimed at employees already working in positions of authority and are looking to gain a qualification to help improve their ways of working; e.g. Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager, Store Manager, Head of Department and a variety of specialist managers.Your current responsibilities may include, but not be limited to: inputting strategic planning, creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management and talent management as well as supporting people through coaching & mentoring. An Operations or Departmental Manager leads and projects according to predetermined goals and objectives, as part of an organisation’s wider strategy. During this Apprenticeship you’ll develop into a manager who can create and deliver operational plans, manage projects, finances, resources and talent and coach/mentor members of staff.

Our expectation is that all Apprentices should already possess English and Maths to a GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent. However, we will consider applicants without these grades subject to an initial assessment with one of the Apprenticeship Team. A Level 3 qualification in a similar sector or significant experience is also required for this qualification.

HSDC offers multiple delivery options for Operational and Departmental Management. Learners can undertake the Apprenticeship as a fully work based Apprenticeship. Learners can attend our mixed business group based at our South Downs Campus and mix with managers from other organisations. We also offer the opportunity to have a class based at your businesses (provided you have training rooms and sufficient numbers of staff interested in the course). If you’d like a group of only your own staff, but don’t want to train at your premises, we offer a standalone group option based at any of our campuses (Alton, Havant and South Downs). Typical Course Duration: 19 months and 5 months End Point Assessment period.

Apprentices can be taught via classroom delivery, work based learning/assessment and vocational “on and off the job training”. This is always dependent on the course, the preferences of the business and the wishes of the learner.

Interview, Portfolio, Project, Presentation and Professional Discussion.

On completion, Apprentices can register as full members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, and those with three years of management experience can apply for Chartered Manager status through the CMI.

Opportunities may exist to gain professional accreditation in your chosen field post completion of the qualification. Your Assessor will support you with information on gaining professional accreditation. As we work with Apprentices that are already employed, if you attend our day release programmes you will mix with a diverse range of businesses with Apprentices in the same sector.

College is definitely worth all the effort you put in, you get to meet lots of different people and it’s amazing.

Ebony Puttock, A Level student

I’m very, very happy, I didn’t expect to do so well. The College has been helpful and supportive. I loved my courses, and the teachers were really good – every single one of them. The facilities are great, but it’s the staff that really make this place.

Matthew Randell, A Level student

I would say it’s a college that really balances academia with fun, there is lots of extra-curricular stuff that you can get involved in. It has a really good work/life balance.
