The University of Chichester is the awarding institution for this qualification. This one day a week programme is characterised by its vocational focus and provides an important grounding in social science perspectives to inform your practice as a social care professional. In addition to subject specific knowledge, you will develop skills in critical thinking and analysis, problem solving, presentation skills and direct work with individuals and groups. The programme is relevant for both experienced practitioners and those who are contemplating a career in adult social care.Cost: £5,600 per year. This course is delivered one day a week.
You will require:– A Foundation degree in Health and Social Care or other Level 5 qualification in a relevant subject, for example an HND in Health and Social Care– Be employed or doing voluntary work in a health and social care setting for a minimum of 12 hours per week is essential– Have the support of your employer or voluntary setting (unless self-employed)– A satisfactory enhanced DBS check
The top-up year contains a range of core and optional modules focusing on more complex work with adults. In addition, you will complete an independent research project on a topic of your choice, this will allow you to draw from your growing theoretical knowledge and undertake research supported by a supervisor.Core modules: Dissertation The Resilient Reflective Practitioner Working with Complex SituationsOptional modules: International Perspectives and Human Rights Advocacy and Social Justice Management and Social Enterprise Skills Mentoring
Your course will include psychological, historical, cultural, sociological, sociopolitical and philosophical viewpoints, which will be delivered through a combination of taught sessions and employer-supported work-based learning, giving you an ideal combination of learning methods.
You will be assessed using a variety of methods, including essays, reports, case studies, an open-book exam, individual and group presentations and a dissertation.
The BA (Hons) in Adult Social Care will enable you to work at a higher/management level within the social care sector, or progress on to studying a relevant Post-graduate/Masters level degree. Depending on the degree classification achieved, graduates may also apply to the Government’s Step Up to Social Work programme (a 14-month full time programme of study for trainee social workers) to qualify with a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work.
