Overview

This course provides a good insight into the work of a beauty therapist.

For this course, dress code is very important. You’ll look at ways of presenting yourself professionally and working as part of a team. You will be taught in our realistic working salon, Synergy, practising on each other until you have learnt the practical skills necessary to work on clients.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 2 and above including either Mathematics or English.

You will learn practical beauty skills including manicures, pedicures, skincare and facial treatments. There will also be an opportunity to explore basic and photographic make-up, as well as creating designs for the application of face paints.

You will be taught in a realistic working salon, practising on each other until you have learnt the practical skills. The theory will be covered in a classroom and you will have assignment work to complete.

English and Mathematics skills will also form part of your course and will be included in each of your lessons. You may have the opportunity to partake in volunteering work within the community.

You will carry out a variety of practical treatments within a realistic working environment at the HSDC Beauty Salon, Synergy. You will also have assignment work to complete.

This course requires you to purchase a uniform and kit and we include trips to enhance your learning and experience of industry. All of these costs will be explained at interview and students in receipt of financial assistance will be supported with these costs.

On successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to move on to a Level 2 course in Beauty.

The teaching has been really good, I’ve loved all of my teachers, they’ve all been really nice and supportive.

Jodie Hook

“HSDC provided me with the opportunity for autonomous study and the choice of subjects that I wanted to study, which helped me develop relevant knowledge as well as relevant skills for the workplace.”

Lucas Ratcliffe, A Level and CTEC student

The tutors were really supportive and it was all thanks to them that I have achieved what I have. I’ve also made loads of great friends and really enjoyed my time at the college.
