Overview

This is a part time course designed to enhance your consultation skills and develop your practical skills in cutting men’s hair and cutting men’s facial hair. It will also help you to develop a sound understanding and knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures whilst working in the barbering industry. To achieve the standards required you must maintain consistent attendance throughout the course.

No formal qualifications are required however a qualification in women’s hairdressing is desirable, but not essential. A creative flair and good customer service skills are a must.

This qualification will be divided into 4 units:

  • Health and safety
  • Consultation
  • Cutting men’s hair
  • Facial hair

You will have a greater understanding of health, safety and security practices and emergency procedures. You will enhance your consultation techniques and be able to identify contagious and non-contagious disorders. You will learn how to cut men’s hair and facial hair (including eyebrows) using scissors, clippers and attachments and using various cutting techniques. You will need to show that you understand the principles of hygiene and safety when performing any practical barbering skills.

This course will consist of theory input and practical skills performed in a realistic working salon. You will have 4 mandatory written exam papers. You will have the opportunity to work on blocks in preparation to your assessments. Your assessments will be recorded in your portfolio on fee paying clients. (You may need to bring in some of your own clients)

 

You will be assessed by an assessor observing your practical skills and by questioning your knowledge and understanding. You will produce a portfolio of work which will be completed throughout the course. This will contain client assessments sheets from your practical sessions, photographic evidence, a candidate assessment book and a log of services completed as proof of competence.

Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing (Full time), Level 2 Certificate in Cutting Hair (Part- time), Or this qualification may lead directly into employment in the Barbering industry as a junior stylist or work as an independent barber.
