Overview

On this course, you will undertake a significant work-based placement with CM Sports on a weekly basis, working alongside experienced coaches in local schools.

This course provides an exciting opportunity to gain invaluable experience in an education environment, whilst also gaining the specific qualifications for direct entry into the world of work.

The course includes the following qualifications: 1st 4 Sport Level 3 Delivery PE and School Sport, NCFE Level 2 Sports Coaching, 1st 4 Sport Level 2 Multi-skills Development in Sport, FFA First Aid at Work Level 3, Safeguarding and Protecting Children NSPCC,  Mathematics and English (where relevant) in GCSE/Functional Skills.

– GCSE English or Mathematics at grade 4 or above.
– Must be aged 17+ at the beginning of the course.
– If you are currently a student at HSDC and wish to progress on to this course, you must have completed a Level 2/3 course and achieved a Merit.

This course will provide you with all of the relevant qualifications that you need to be able to coach in schools in accordance with
requirements of Local Authority.

This includes the following qualifications:

  • L3 Delivery PE and school sport
  • L2 Sports coaching
  • L2 Multi skills development in sport
  • First aid at work
  • L2 Safeguarding and protecting children
  • Mathematics and English where relevant

You will benefit from up to date technology when coaching. Every session is recorded using our sports mast and voice recordings are obtained with Bluetooth live recording in sessions for assessment and self-reflection. You will also use Navigate to log all of your industry placement hours and also use as a diary to log skills that you gain.

You will be assessed through a range of practical observations both in college and the workplace. Alongside this, you will build a portfolio of evidence.

Kit must be purchased in-line with CM Sports, which is £115.

On completion of this course, you can progress onto part time or full time coaching employment or an Apprenticeship with either CM Sports or another coaching company.

Out students have been working with over 20 local schools daily since October, supporting CM Sports with PE delivery and coaching sessions to school years R-year 6.

This course has made us become more professional and confident in ourselves. We have also been mentored by coaches who already have a lot of experience in the coaching industry. When working with them we have been able to learn the teaching techniques that they use and we have also been able to start to develop our own way of teaching a class. The qualifications we have been taught have all been a challenge in different ways. The multi-sports qualification was very intense as we only had a small amount of time to complete it. The NCFE qualification was a bit more relaxed but we still knew that the work that was given to us still had to be completed to the high standard we set. During the NCFE we were very much in control of the practical sessions we delivered. Every Tuesday, five of us would deliver a session on a sport of a sport-specific skill to the rest of the class. At the start, we would all panic if we were chosen to deliver the session but about two months in we would all be very confident in ourselves go deliver a good session. The PESS qualification has been a different style of qualification as it is mainly about us and the schools we have been working in. Instead of the teachers telling us the answers we have had to ask the schools ourselves. This has made us become more independent in our work. Overall the course has been very good and has met my expectations. I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in coaching.
