Overview

Our Fast Track route is for those students who have achieved their Maths & English qualifications. The Fast Track course allows you to complete the course in six months (September until the end of March), so you can be ready to fly in the summer season. If you would like to work as a member of air cabin crew or part of the airport ground crew team, this course will give you the knowledge and skills you need to succeed.

As a learner you’ll undertake training at the British Airways Training Base at Heathrow Airport, completing a range of practical exercises including emergency evacuation procedures.

Daily lessons will take place in a replica of a Boeing 747 aircraft cabin. You’ll learn aviation operations, airline health, safety and security, emergency procedures, crew room duties and ground operations. In preparation for interviews with airlines, you’ll also participate in an airline mock interview day at one of our local partnership hotels.

Fast Track is for you if you have already gained your Mathematics & English qualifications. If you are in the process of completing your English and Maths qualifications, you can still study Cabin Crew here at HSDC, on our full-year programme.

You must be a minimum of 17 years of age to enrol on this course. You must have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above to start this course. You must also have a grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics.

On this course you will study:

  • An introduction to airline/aviation operations
  • Airline health, safety and security
  • Airline emergency procedures
  • Crew room duties
  • The role of air cabin crew (onboard)
  • Preparation for employment as air cabin crew
  • The certificate in ground operations

Daily lessons will take place aboard a replica of a Boeing 747 aircraft cabin at our South Downs Campus.

All of your lessons will be delivered by industry experts; our staff have previously worked for a range of airlines including British Airways, First Choice and Virgin Atlantic. Two members of the cabin crew teaching team are still working in the industry, one at Southampton Airport and the other works as senior crew for British Airways.

On this course, you will experience a range of teaching methods including role plays, videos and creating your own presentation, to name a few.

Progress will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, observations, examinations, role plays and case studies. Specialist components will be assessed offsite during a residential to the British Airways training base at London Heathrow Airport. This will include safety and emergency training procedures in ditching, fire & smoke and slide deployment. This is compliant with all UK airlines, approved by Civil Aviation Authority standards. This trip is compulsory and will cost approximately £120.

This course requires you to purchase a uniform and kit and we include trips to enhance your learning and experience of industry. All of these costs will be explained at interview and students in receipt of financial assistance will be supported with these costs.

Successful students will be able to apply to work in the airline industry.

British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Easy Jet, Southampton Airport, Gatwick Airport, Royal Air Force (Cabin crew and Stewards within RAF).

After studying for two years at HSDC, I decided to stay on an extra six months doing fast track Cabin Crew to help me get my dream job. Through the course, we learnt everything we needed to know about the safety and emergency procedures taught in training by airlines. This included a trip to the British Airways training centre at London Heathrow, to give us an in-depth view of what it would be like during our training period. Because I had an in-depth knowledge of the industry and the job itself, it really helped me to thrive in my interviews and stand out, as I knew a lot about what was to come in the training process and the job role itself if I were to be successful. The lecturers are really supportive and help to get everyone to where they want to be, whether they decide to be cabin crew or not. I have now finished all my training, with a job secured at a leading travel operator, TUI.
