Overview

This course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to set you on the path to success as an Esports professional. This is more than just gaming and it is not just about becoming a pro Esports player; this is a course that gives you a range of skills required to be part of a rapidly growing industry that includes shoutcasters, coaches, event managers, business individuals, social media managers, marketing executives… to name just a few.

With ongoing digitalisation, technological advancements, and in the wake of the pandemic, recent figures show that this industry contributes 111.5m to the UK GDP each year with over 1.2 million adults in Britain saying they watch Esports and other competitive gaming events currently. These figures will continue to grow with Esports now being recognised by the IOC.

We are very fortunate that our whole staff team have real industry experience, they have worked in the Esports industry, some of them still do, alongside their teaching.

For progression we have partnerships with the Universities of Chichester & Portsmouth who both have Esports degrees.

Alongside this course, we currently play in British Esports Students Champs tournaments and you will have the chance to be part of the team competing in Valorant, Rocket League, Overwatch and League of Legends.

You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths and English.

This course includes a mix of practical and theory units that will not only develop your practical and analytical skills in coaching, shoutcasting, video production but will also look at the fundamental industry needs of content creation and event management. All of this is underpinned by key theoretical understanding, along with health and wellbeing and business enterprise awareness.

You will bring all of this knowledge together in a project that you will have creative control over; giving you the opportunity to explore the area of industry that you would like to progress into.

This full time course is taught in our Gaming & Creative Digital Studios. We provide specialist knowledge and skills to prepare you for the fast-growing Esports industry.

This is a career-focused qualification with industry endorsement that enables you to learn underpinning knowledge, develop technical and transferable skills and gain experience in a variety of different sections of the Esports industry.

You will produce a range of projects over this two year course, all of which are assessed by coursework. You will complete a number of formative units where you will be given feedback and then, at the end of each year, a final major project that will determine your grade.

The UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology - Esports gives students the ability to experience different subject pathways within the course, allowing them to find their speciality as they progress.

My experience at the college was enjoyable and productive, with thoroughly helpful people surrounding you, an excellent experience. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was, with the work shop time and experience I had, it was a great two years preparing me for the next stage.

Edward Smith, BTEC student

“HSDC provided me with the opportunity for autonomous study and the choice of subjects that I wanted to study, which helped me develop relevant knowledge as well as relevant skills for the workplace.”

Lucas Ratcliffe, A Level and CTEC student

I’m very, very happy, I didn’t expect to do so well. The College has been helpful and supportive. I loved my courses, and the teachers were really good – every single one of them. The facilities are great, but it’s the staff that really make this place.

Matthew Randell, A Level student
