Overview

This course will provide the necessary practical skills and qualifications for learners to pursue a variety of careers in the IT industry. 

You will be taught how to use industry-leading software such as Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Muse CC. You will also develop valuable employability skills related specifically to the IT industry, gaining experience in using both Apple Mac and PCs.

 

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language or Mathematics or BTEC Level 1 Diploma in IT at Merit Level.

On this course you will study:

  • Communicating in the IT industry
  • Working in the IT industry
  • Setting up an IT network
  • Website development
  • Computer graphics
  • Computer systems
  • Installing computer hardware

You will gain essential skills in using the latest Adobe software such as Photoshop CC for graphics, Muse CC for website creation, iBooks Author for multimedia as well as setting up computer networks, selecting suitable computer components and building a PC for a client.

Online learning support is provided, distributing teaching materials including over 100 video tutorials specifically created for the course. Lessons will take place in our dedicated IT rooms using both PC and Mac environments with a specialist hardware and networking room.

Each week, you will study the various units through theory, demonstration and practical activities, comprising around 14 hours with a dedicated tutorial and workshop. Assessment is carried out using a variety of methods such as written, video and audio recordings of presentations.

All of the units will be assessed through assignments and will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

On successful completion of the course, learners with a Merit/Distinction and tutor recommendation may progress to the Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma course in IT or apply for a Level 2/3 Apprenticeship in an IT-related area.
