Overview

This course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to set you on the path to success as an Esports professional. This is more than just gaming and it is not just about becoming a pro Esports player; this is a course that gives you a range of skills required to be part of a rapidly growing industry that includes shoutcasters, coaches, event managers, business individuals, social media managers, marketing executives… to name just a few.

With ongoing digitalisation, technological advancements, and in the wake of the pandemic, recent figures show that this industry contributes £111.5m to the UK GDP each year with over 1.2 million adults in Britain saying they watch Esports and other competitive gaming events currently. These figures will continue to grow with Esports now being recognised by the IOC.

We have excellent links with industry specialists and are one of only three UK colleges with an education partnership with Fnatic. They are one of the industry leading Esports companies and our partnership offers us access to webinars, Fnatic HQ visits, events, Q&As with current staff and loads more. We also work with other companies such as Vulpine Esports and X7 Esports. For progression we have partnerships with the University of Chichester and University of Portsmouth who both have Esports degrees.

Alongside this course, we currently play in British Esports Students Champs tournaments and you will have the chance to be part of the team competing in Valorant, Rocket League, Overwatch and League of Legends.

You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Mathematics and English.

This course includes a mix of practical and theory units that will not only develop your practical and analytical skills in coaching, shoutcasting, video production but will also look at the fundamental industry needs of content creation and event management.

All of this is underpinned by key theoretical understanding, along with health and wellbeing and business enterprise awareness. You will bring all of this knowledge together in a project that you will have creative control over; giving you the opportunity to explore the area of industry that you would like to progress into.

This full time course is taught in our Gaming & Creative Digital Studios. We provide specialist knowledge and skills to prepare you for the fast-growing Esports industry.

This is a career-focused qualification with industry endorsement that enables you to learn underpinning knowledge, develop technical and transferable skills and gain experience in a variety of different sections of the Esports industry.

All units are internally assessed units and subject to external standards verification.

You will be given opportunities to:
– present findings of your own research
– use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations
– carry out projects for which you have choice over the direction and outcomes
– demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate processes.

Your course culminates in a synoptic assessment that enables you to demonstrate you can identify and use effectively, in an integrated way, an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories and knowledge in realistic contexts, scenarios and activities.

Studying this course could lead you into employment across a range of roles within Esports either individually or in teams. Alternatively, you could progress onto a relevant degree such as the Esports Degree offered by our partners at the University of Chichester.

I’m very, very happy, I didn’t expect to do so well. The College has been helpful and supportive. I loved my courses, and the teachers were really good – every single one of them. The facilities are great, but it’s the staff that really make this place.

Matthew Randell, A Level student

My experience at the college has been really good, it’s been really rewarding, all the lecturers were so lovely and supportive there’s no way I could have done it without them - the teaching has been outstanding.

Lucie Brooks, A Level student

I overcame a couple of barriers by working really hard to get the top grades. My experience was really good, with the course and the lecturers, the residentials and activities, together it was all really good. I had really great teaching support, I could always go to the lecturers and speak to them if I needed to.
