The Digital HN Flex will be delivered as part of the new South Coast Institute of Technology collaboration, providing a first-class learning experience. Students will be taught by lecturers with an experienced background in industry, and will have access to brand new industry standard facilities, such as two brand new re-designed Digital Tech suites, including a dedicated server, high spec DELL PCs, Cisco Systems, new VR/AR tools such as the Microsoft HoloLens 2 and private small seminar spaces for individual study.This course is designed to meet the needs of businesses, with:- The flexibility to gain knowledge, skills, and behaviours in a more efficient and bite-sized way to upskill or retrain, without having to enrol on a full qualification- Full accreditation by Pearson BTEC. 15 credits awarded per unit under the framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ)- The ability to “stack” units towards a full Higher National qualification in the futureAs an employer, this option provides quality CPD via specific occupationally relevant units, rapidly upskilling employees. We offer different entry requirements – real world experience counts so you may not need the qualifications you would need for the same course at university.If you have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:– Grade 9 – 4 in GCSE Mathematics – a sound Mathematical ability is essential– A BTEC Level 3 qualification in IT or Digital Technologies– A T Level qualification in Digital– A Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in relevant subjects such as Mathematics, Computer Science, etcFor those who have been out of education for some time, industry experience and technical skills will also be taken into consideration.
This course allows students to take unit credits in short form such as one evening per week over seven weeks per unit.Unit 3: Cyber SecurityUnit 7: Cloud FundamentalsUnit 10: Database Design & Development
The course entails a mixture of lectures, online content, tutorials, workshops and independent research. Every student will have a dedicated tutor to help support studies, as well as access to the College’s resources and facilities.Teaching staff on the course have backgrounds in industry working for IBM and Marconi and Academia ranging up to PhD level. We also have working partnerships with Lockheed Martin. Staff specialisms include Programming, Database Design, Cyber Security, Networking, and Cloud Computing.
We assess you in a way that encourages a deeper understanding and allows you to develop your skills. This includes:– Reports– Multiple choice tests– Essays– Written exams– Mini projects– Presentations– Review articles
You will have the opportunity to “stack” units towards a full Higher National (HNC/D) qualification in the future. After successfully completing the HND, you will be able to progress on to a top-up degree or gain advancement in your current employment. As an Institute of Technology partner, students will have the option to top up to full degree status with our university partners Solent University Southampton and the University of Portsmouth.You will also be able to gain progression employment in fields such as computer networking, technical support, web development, software development, AI development, AR development, and cloud based systems.
