Overview

The IT Solutions Technician Apprenticeship equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to develop, implement, and maintain IT solutions that address business challenges and improve organisational efficiency. Suitable for organisations of all sizes and across all sectors, the apprenticeship focuses on designing technical solutions that resolve root causes rather than simply treating symptoms, while considering the wider impact on existing systems and infrastructure.

Our expectation is that all Apprentices should already possess English and Mathematics to a GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent. However, we will consider applicants without these grades subject to an initial assessment with one of the Apprenticeship Team.

Throughout the apprenticeship, individuals gain experience across the full solutions lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, implementation and ongoing support. They learn to assess business needs, analyse existing systems, and recommend appropriate software, hardware, or integrated technology solutions that deliver measurable improvements in performance, functionality, and efficiency. Working as part of multidisciplinary teams, apprentices collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to understand business objectives and translate these into effective technical solutions. They apply structured methodologies to gather and analyse requirements, undertake research to inform solution design, and communicate recommendations clearly to stakeholders. By developing concept and logical designs, they ensure proposed solutions are practical, aligned with organisational goals, and capable of delivering long-term business value. 18 months with a typical four month assessment period, no college release day required. Great progression to Data Analyst or AI and Automation Practitioner. Digital route.

Apprentices are taught via a mix of classroom delivery, work-based learning/assessment and vocational “on and off the job training”.

Knowledge test, portfolio based interview and project/improvement presentation.

After completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship, you can progress onto a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship, gain specialist responsibilities within your role, or move into supervisory and management positions. The advanced skills and industry experience you’ve developed will provide a strong foundation for continued career growth and professional development.

Opportunities may exist to gain professional accreditation in your chosen field post completion of the qualification. Your Assessor will support you with information on gaining professional accreditation. As we work with Apprentices that are already employed, if you attend our day release programmes you will mix with a diverse range of businesses with Apprentices in the same sector.

The tutors were really supportive and it was all thanks to them that I have achieved what I have. I’ve also made loads of great friends and really enjoyed my time at the college.
