Overview

From September 2025, we will be offering a NEW Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship.

This comprehensive course is designed to equip learners with the essential skills and knowledge required to become proficient Mechatronics Maintenance Technicians.

If you would like to discuss this new course programme with our Business Development Team please call 023 9279 4661 or email: realbusiness@hsdc.ac.uk

Our expectation is that all Apprentices should already possess English and Mathematics to a GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent. However, we will consider applicants without these grades subject to an initial assessment with one of the Apprenticeship Team. A Level 3 qualification in a similar sector or significant experience is also required for this qualification.

There will be a day release element to the Apprenticeship, which will see you undertaking taught lessons at HSDC for one day a week, with the other four days being spent at your place of work for on-the-job training, with a monthly (tbc) visit from your Apprenticeship Assessor. There will also be a 1-3 months End Point Assessment period.

Apprentices can be taught via classroom delivery, work-based learning/assessment and vocational “on-and-off-the-job training”. This is always dependent on the course requirements, the preferences of the business and the wishes of the learner.

Observation & professional discussion.

On completion, you can progress in industry or onto a degree Apprenticeship. Career destinations have robotics, automation, automotive, and control systems engineering.

Opportunities may exist to gain professional accreditation in your chosen field post completion of the qualification. Your Assessor will support you with information on gaining professional accreditation. As we work with Apprentices that are already employed, if you attend our day release programmes you will mix with a diverse range of businesses with Apprentices in the same sector.

My experience at the college was enjoyable and productive, with thoroughly helpful people surrounding you, an excellent experience. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was, with the work shop time and experience I had, it was a great two years preparing me for the next stage.

Edward Smith, BTEC student

I would say it’s a college that really balances academia with fun, there is lots of extra-curricular stuff that you can get involved in. It has a really good work/life balance.

Laura Hagedorn, A Level student

I’m very, very happy, I didn’t expect to do so well. The College has been helpful and supportive. I loved my courses, and the teachers were really good – every single one of them. The facilities are great, but it’s the staff that really make this place.

Matthew Randell, A Level student
