The Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship prepares individuals to support teaching and learning across a wide range of educational settings, including primary and secondary schools, special schools, alternative provision, sixth forms and further education colleges. Apprentices develop the knowledge and skills to work with learners of all ages and abilities, helping to create inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments that promote academic progress and personal development.
Our expectation is that all Apprentices should already possess English and Mathematics to a GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent. However, we will consider applicants without these grades subject to an initial assessment with one of the Apprenticeship Team.
Throughout the apprenticeship, individuals learn to support qualified teachers in delivering high-quality education by working with learners individually and in small groups, adapting activities to meet diverse learning needs, and encouraging positive learning behaviours. They gain experience supporting learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), those with English as an additional language (EAL), disadvantaged learners, and those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to achieve their potential. Working collaboratively with teachers, education professionals, and parents or carers, apprentices develop the skills to contribute effectively to the wider educational environment. They learn to implement safeguarding policies and safe working practices, support the planning and delivery of learning activities under the direction of a teacher, and help create safe, stimulating, and inclusive classrooms. Throughout the programme, apprentices work within national legislation and organisational policies, developing the professionalism and confidence needed to make a positive contribution to learners’ education and wellbeing. 18 months with a typical three month assessment period, no college release day required. Great progression for Teacher Undergraduate, Early Years Level 2 and to Early Years Level 5. Education and early years route.
Apprentices are taught via a mix of classroom delivery, work-based learning/assessment and vocational “on and off the job training”.
Knowledge test, portfolio based interview and project/improvement presentation.
After completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship, you can progress onto a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship, gain specialist responsibilities within your role, or move into supervisory and management positions. The advanced skills and industry experience you’ve developed will provide a strong foundation for continued career growth and professional development.
Opportunities may exist to gain professional accreditation in your chosen field post completion of the qualification. Your Assessor will support you with information on gaining professional accreditation. As we work with Apprentices that are already employed, if you attend our day release programmes you will mix with a diverse range of businesses with Apprentices in the same sector.
