Our Healthcare Science T Level provides a practical route into professions such as Radiography, Operating Department Practitioner, Cardiographer and Biomedical Sciences. Following this course you can progress into working either within the hospitals, healthcare science apprenticeships or into Higher Education.This course covers:This course covers:• Learning about the wide range of jobs you can move into as a healthcare professional• Learning how to carry out different types of clinical tests and measurements in a range of different clinical settings and laboratories• Learning about medical imaging such as X Rays and Ultrasound scanning and how this can feed into diagnosis and treatment.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, a grade 5 in Mathematics and grade 5 in Double Science. Alternatively, you can complete Level 2 Health and Science (Pre T level) achieving a grade A alongside grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics and English.
On this course, you will study the following core units: Working within the health and science sector Health, safety and environmental regulations in the health and science sector Managing information and data within the health and science sector Good scientific and clinical practice Core science concepts Health and safety, regulations in healthcarescience Providing person-centred care when working in healthcare science Infection prevention and control in healthcare science settings Managing information and dataSpecialist units: Contribute to patient care by supporting physiological, physical and clinical engineering services to produce reliable data and images for use by healthcare professionals in diagnosis and treatment Contribute to patient care by supporting the collection of a range of specimens for analysis to aid diagnosis and treatment Contribute to patient care by processing and analysing patient specimens in a laboratory environment to produce reliable data sets for use by healthcare professionals in diagnosis and treatment
This course will be taught in a combination of learning environments. Some lectures will take place in science laboratories, whilst others will take place in state-of-the-art facilities set up as hospital wards and healthcare settings. High-tech medical and clinical equipment will be used to enable you to understand the range of equipment used by healthcare professionals and how to use this equipment yourself.
Externally assessed exam, industrial placement, employer-set project and synoptic assessment in a healthcare setting.
On completion of this course, you will be able to go directly into employment as a healthcare assistant. You could also undertake a Higher Apprenticeship as a healthcare science associate which includes roles such as phlebotomist (taking blood), cardiographer (monitoring the heart) or a newborn hearing screener (assessing hearing in newborn babies). Alternatively, you could go on to study in Higher Education for degrees such as Radiography, Nuclear Medicine or Cardiac Physiology.
You will need to complete a minimum of 315 hours of industry placement over the two-year duration of the course. This unique experience will provide you with the opportunity to develop the right skills, knowledge and behaviours in the workplace which will prepare you to move directly into employment in your chosen sector.
