Overview

You will study over two years in a number of practical and theoretical areas that will prepare you for various roles in the media and communications industries.The structure of the course and the method of delivery is devised as a result of consultation between College staff and media professionals. It is delivered through constantly updated and industry-related assignments. It is broadly equivalent to three A Levels.To further develop production skills and to give a taster of the Higher Education experience in conjunction with the University of Chichester you will attend a week-long residency at the Chichester Technical Park. Throughout the residency, you will be introduced to state-of-the-art motion capture technology, industry level sound design equipment and work on the biggest sound stage outside of London.

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language or Mathematics. At interview, you should bring with you a portfolio of film & TV based creative work.

You will complete various units over two years in a number of practical and theoretical areas that will prepare you for various roles in the media and communications industries.Year 1:Factual Programme Techniques: In which you will be required to research and create a news report of local and national interest, a corporate video promoting a local company and a documentary incorporating members of the public.Year 2:Single Camera Production Techniques: In which you will collaborate with Acting students to plan, prepare, produce and present a short fictional film using broadcast-quality equipment including lighting and dolly and tracks.

The course provides a studio equipped with green screen technology and vision mixing capabilities. Alongside this, post-production facilities are available in the form of Adobe Creative Suite. Production facilities include BBC approved HD cameras and professional sound recording equipment.

Assessment is largely project-based, leading to a collaborative project at the end of each year which is graded Pass, Merit, or Distinction.

Some learners may wish to gain the qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to a Level 4 or 5 programme. UAL Extended Diplomas in Creative Media Production will provide access to a greater range of specialist units and therefore broaden and extend your experience.


There are lots of people at the college, each studying a diverse range of courses, people from all different areas come to study here, it creates a sense of community, there is a huge social aspect to college life across all courses.
