Overview

There are currently approximately 13.9 million people in the UK living with a disability; would you know how to support any of these individuals?

This qualification is not solely for those that wish to pursue employment in education, it is for anyone who comes into contact with individuals with learning disabilities as part of their job role, for example in the healthcare sector, care industry, housing, employment support, leisure industry, probation service and working in libraries.

To secure a place on this course you should hold passes in GCSE or Functional Skills English at Level 1 or be willing to work towards achieving these qualifications.

On this online course, you will study the following knowledge-based units:

  1. Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
  2. Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
  3. Understand physical disability
  4. Introductory awareness of sensory loss
  5. Understand mental wellbeing and mental health problems

Your learning material and assignments will be available to you through a Google Classroom. There will also be an opportunity for you to attend a workshop in our dedicated Adult Learning Centre at the Havant Campus.

You will need to complete five unit assignments, all with individual deadlines.

On completion of this course, you will have gained knowledge to support an application of employment to work in a number of sectors. You could also apply for courses such as the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Level 2 Children and Young People's Workforce or Level 2 Business Ready.

Your assessor is a qualified teacher, with years of experience supporting individuals with a range of disabilities.

My courses were all especially interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. All of my lecturers were extremely knowledgeable and I have learnt a lot from them.
