Theatrical & Media Make-up Courses at South Downs Campus

We are looking forward to welcoming you to HSDC South Downs. We have set some activities to help you before you start your course. They will help you practice creating moulage. You will need to research and carry out special effect make-up.

Did you know? Kryolan is doing live video talks and demonstrations on Instagram. This will help you when you join our course, as we use their professional products.

For this task, you need to research products that are found at home and can be used on the skin to create special effects make-up.

Draw a plan of where you are going to apply your wound (please apply it on a limb, not your face).

You will then need to carry out your special effects make-up on yourself and send photos of your work to: dawn.richardson@hsdc.ac.uk. Please also upload your work to Facebook or Instagram and tag HSDC, so we can share and comment on your work. This will allow you to see what your future classmates have been up to!

Write a list of the products, tools and equipment you have used and justify why you used them and state whether they created the effect you wanted.

My time at the college was definitely life changing, I have learnt a lot of new skills, and obviously it’s a completely new experience. The support was great, there was always people there to help and try make it as easy as they can for you. The college is really fantastic, it has helped me on the way to get to what I want to achieve within my career goals.

Erin Morgan, BTEC student

Everyone at the College was really helpful, and there’s lots of facilities, meaning it’s very easy to get your work done on time, and get good grades. The teaching and support was excellent, they were always on top of it, and made sure you got work done on time and you were challenged. Everyone is friendly and its really diverse, meaning you can get involved in lots of different things.
