On December 19th 2013, first and second year Creative Media Production (Film and TV) – BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma were given 48 hours to write, plan, shoot and edit a short fiction film in response to a randomly generated brief. Each film had a specific prop, line of dialogue and shot that had to be used in the film and 1 in 3 random selections included a “wildcard”.
The challenge was entered on a completely voluntary basis, the students formed groups and completed the task given in their own time. The work produced will go towards their vital digital portfolio.
Rob Blofield, organiser of the event, was highly impressed with the work the students produced: “The challenge sounds daunting to begin with, but having the three short points to grow a script and idea around, it wasn’t long before the creative vibes amongst the groups were beginning to show some real signs of a promising result. The students really had to think about the assets they had available to them, the equipment they would use, and were encouraged to think completely outside the box when it came to their ideas.”
