Scholarships have been awarded to the highest ever number of HSDC Alton College students in this year’s celebratory ceremony.
The 20th Scholarships for Excellence Awards took place in the Wessex Arts Centre at HSDC Alton on 10 March.
Trevor Heley, Managing Director of the Alton College Foundation, opened the ceremony by welcoming students, parents, sponsors, College staff, Governors and the Foundation Directors who were in the audience to celebrate the achievement of the successful scholars.
He congratulated the new scholars, who have brought the total number of Alton students awarded scholarships since the scheme began in 2002 to 375.
Trevor thanked past and present sponsors and donors for their generosity in not only providing scholarships but also grants to students and donations to the College.
He also thanked College staff for their valuable support in what had been a very difficult period and paid tribute to the incredibly high calibre of applications this year and the subsequent outstanding quality of the winning students.
Trevor said:
“In our 20th year of providing scholarships it remains a pleasure for the Alton College Foundation and our sponsors to know that the standard of students at the college remains very high.
“With 25 students receiving scholarships this year, our highest ever, we know these students will go on to join our ever-growing number of highly successful alumni.”
The audience welcomed and heard from Christopher Veal, who was the Business Scholarship recipient in 2012.
Christopher gave an inspiring speech about how the scholarship had given him the confidence to succeed in his studies and current career.
