Overview

This progression course elevates your digital filmmaking and branding skills to an industry-aligned standard. Moving beyond basic filming, learners will conduct competitor research, write professional pitches, experiment with advanced production prototypes, and build cohesive cross-platform brand assets (vlogs, short-form content, and bespoke custom thumbnails). You will learn to evaluate your creative choices critically, managing a media production workflow from concept to a multi-video release.

Key Resources:

  • Mobile Device & Apps: A smartphone with free storage is required. Learners will test and select mobile editing applications and use Canva for digital graphic design layouts.
  • Software Requirement: Access to on-campus editing suites featuring Adobe Premiere Pro and Canva is provided to build premium media workflows.
  • Independent Study & Attendance: While learners must undertake independent practical work outside of class time—specifically for primary video capture and location filming—this course is not delivered via remote learning. Consistent on-campus attendance is vital to access specialist hardware and post-production software suites, engage in peer pitches, and complete the assessed coursework under direct academic supervision.

Successful completion of Online Production Level 1, a UAL Level 1 media qualification, or equivalent basic digital image and video editing capabilities.

  • Session 1: Industry Prototyping & Competitor Analysis – Deconstructing professional vlogger styles, establishing production frameworks, and testing early visual prototypes in pairs to master cut-away conventions.
  • Session 2: App Manuals & Creative Pitching – Completing a step-by-step app user evaluation, writing formal project proposals, running SWOT analyses, and pitching final channel concepts to the group.
  • Session 3: Pre-Production & Production Paperwork – Completing critical pre-production documentation, including location health and safety forms, targeted visual storyboards, shot lists, and structured narrative scripts.
  • Session 4: Channel Production & Capture – Launching active production schedules to film the core vlog, capturing diverse b-roll assets, and formatting high-impact multi-platform media extensions.
  • Session 5: Thumbnail Design & Multi-Platform Assembly – Conducting comparative thumbnail analysis, creating 5–10 custom channel graphics via Canva, and editing short-form content derived from primary footage.
  • Session 6: Portfolio Finalisation & Evaluation – Compiling evidence of pre-production and design choices into a UAL digital portfolio, completing a written evaluation, and reviewing the finalised channel structure.
  • Session 7: Advanced Video Editing Techniques – Transitioning into complex post-production editing workflows using Adobe Premiere Pro, focusing on multi-camera syncing, colour grading basics, and professional pacing.
  • Session 8: Audio Design & Sound Engineering – Mastering audio enhancement by capturing high-quality voiceovers, executing noise reduction techniques, and mixing legal, copyright-free soundscapes and audio effects.
  • Session 9: Audience Feedback & Engagement – Reviewing and responding to viewer comments and audience feedback, understanding basic platform interaction, and planning methods to encourage community engagement.
  • Session 10: Multi-Platform Formatting – Adapting and editing core video content into shorter clips tailored for vertical platforms such as TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or Instagram Reels.
  • Session 11: Project Review & Final Capture – Evaluating video presentation and basic viewing statistics, identifying areas for visual improvement, and filming any necessary pick-up shots or re-shoots to refine the project
  • Session 12: Final Showcase & Qualification Sign-Off – Presenting the finished digital media portfolio and multi-platform channel to the class, completing the comprehensive UAL written evaluation, and finalising all digital submission folders.

Learning is delivered via interactive adult media workshops. Sessions blend collaborative design pitches, peer evaluation, and active laboratory time utilising professional software and mobile production tools

Assessment is entirely portfolio-based through a UAL Awarding Body framework, with no formal exams. Grades are awarded as a Pass or Fail based on the completion of practical portfolios, production files, and project journals across Unit 1 and Unit 2.

Successful completion rewards students with a UAL Level 2 Award. This provides a direct progression pathway to the UAL Level 2 Diploma or Level 3 Creative Media Production and Technology programmes.

Students engage with professional creative agency pipelines, mastering pre-production paperwork, client pitching structures, Canva asset generation, and platform analytics workflows.

The teaching has been really good, I’ve loved all of my teachers, they’ve all been really nice and supportive.

Jodie Hook

I’m very, very happy, I didn’t expect to do so well. The College has been helpful and supportive. I loved my courses, and the teachers were really good – every single one of them. The facilities are great, but it’s the staff that really make this place.

Matthew Randell, A Level student

My experience at the college was enjoyable and productive, with thoroughly helpful people surrounding you, an excellent experience. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was, with the work shop time and experience I had, it was a great two years preparing me for the next stage.

Edward Smith, BTEC student
