If you’re looking to establish yourself as an artist and are looking to create your own products/portfolio in order to sell your work, then this course could be perfect for you.
The course will be very focussed on industry skills and connections. The classroom will be your studio first, classroom second, working with motivated and creative students trying to make an industry impact. All the creative lecturers have industry experience.
You’ll be working alongside all types of creative people, as the course is designed for those who have studied areas such as graphics, textiles, fashion, art, illustration, photography, 3D, media and business, and wish to create products, establish themselves as an artist, run their own enterprise and market their own products.

Our entry profile recommends to include one of the following:
– UAL or BTEC Level 3 qualification in Graphics & Photography, Graphic Design, Art & Design, Business or Media
– A Level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one A Level subject.
Units 1 and 2 will be Pass only. The overall qualification is graded on Unit 3 and is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
The course will develop your own project management skills and cover copyright laws, basic accounts and budgeting, pitching proposals, marketing, social media advertising and branding as you will need to create yourself as a brand.
You can expect to develop your knowledge of graphic design, photography, screen printing, print knowledge, illustration, marketing, basic accounts, putting on an exhibition, basic web design and experience of working on live projects.
You will attend approximately 16 hours of studio time, workshops, lectures and tutorials each week over a period of 30 weeks. The course will be taught with an approach that delivers a balance between practical skills development and knowledge acquirement.
The course is assessed continuously through a range of assessments, live projects, your creative enterprise, workshops and meaningful outcomes.
The process of assessment is part of the effective planning of teaching and learning and provides opportunities for both the learner and assessor to obtain information about progress towards learning goals.
Typical progression would be employment, self-employment and/or further progression to Higher Education.
It’s now possible to progress directly from successfully completing this course on to Year 2 of an Arts degree, allowing you to save money by not paying the first-year university fees. Progression to a full degree is available through Solent University, joining for the 2nd and 3rd years. Meaning that the first year of your degree will be free if you are under 19 or significantly reduced if you are over 19.
The course has been designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to develop your careers as creative professionals. This qualification will provide you with an opportunity to cultivate your employability by developing your creative enterprise skills, expanding your contact base whilst developing your start-up projects and professional practice.
Not only will you create your own enterprise, but you will work on a number of industry live projects with real world deadlines.
