On this course you will develop a good working knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance. You will study the basics of car mechanics including lubrication systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, braking systems, fuel systems, spark ignition systems, transmission systems and steering and suspension systems. All practical elements will be taught in our fully equipped automotive workshops with theory taught in the classroom. In addition, you will be expected to study English and Mathematics Functional Skills courses. During the year you’ll have opportunities to attend trips, take part in team-building activities and listen to guest speakers from the automotive industry.
Two GCSEs at grade 2 or above in Mathematics and English Language.

This course will be delivered in the fully equipped automotive workshop with time spent in the classroom to study theory and work skills. You should also aim to find a part-time job.We also encourage you to volunteer in a garage during your course. This will help you develop your skills and increase your chances of gaining an apprenticeship.
The theory elements are assessed online through multi-choice tests. There is also a series of practical assignments and the completion of a portfolio of evidence. All practical tasks are demonstrated; you will practise the task and when the assessor feels you are competent, you will be assessed unsupervised.
