Did you know? Scientific research over the past 30 years has taught us that the most important period of human development is from birth to eight years old. During these years, the development of cognitive skills, emotional well-being, social competence and sound physical and mental health builds a strong foundation for success well into the adult years. Although learning takes place throughout life, in early childhood learning is taking place at a speed that will never be equalled. Learning through play is relevant throughout the whole early childhood period and beyond.

Write an essay on the importance of play to babies’ and young children’s learning and development. You should include how play supports the different areas of child development. The essay should be between 500-750 words and should be in your own words. The task should be brought to your enrolment interview.

I’m really happy and pleased with my grades. I really loved my time at the college, I have also made lots of friends, it’s a really nice place to be, I don’t want to leave.

Lauren Piper, A Level student

The teaching and support was absolutely brilliant, they couldn’t have done anything more or anything better, if I had any questions my lecturers would always stay behind to help me if I needed it and their emails were always open, it was second to none. This college is the best by far.

Amber Searle, BTEC student

The tutors were really supportive and it was all thanks to them that I have achieved what I have. I’ve also made loads of great friends and really enjoyed my time at the college.
