Overview

This exciting BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Marketing focuses on the holistic development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education. The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with employers, so offers real insight and applied learning. The two-year course, equivalent to one A Level, is designed to be practical and engaging, perfect for students who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of Marketing and its application to a range of business ideas, models and sectors.

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language.

The course focuses on three core units:

Unit 1: Careers in Marketing. In this unit, you will investigate how the marketing industry is organised in the UK. You’ll research different careers in the public, private and voluntary sectors, and examine the qualifications, skills and experiences required to pursue each career. You will undertake an application and interview process for a selected career pathway, drawing on knowledge and skills from across the qualification to identify your strengths and areas for development.

Unit 2: Marketing Principles. This unit investigates how research is used and how important it is to check that it is valid and reliable. You’ll explore how and why organisations segment the market and how and why marketing activities are adapted according to the different segments identified. You will study consumer behaviour in a marketing context, and explore the importance of marketing strategies and campaigns to support the ethos of an organisation.

Unit 3: Customer Communications. This unit studies the processes involved in creating a successful customer communications plan to learn about different types of customers and how they make buying decisions. You will explore the purpose of marketing communications and the range of tools available. Later, you’ll prepare a customer communications plan and measure the plan’s effectiveness.

Lessons will involve coursework sessions and theory as you prepare for internal and external assessments.

65% external exams

35% internal assessments

When combined with other A Level qualifications, the Marketing course provides a great opportunity to progress to higher education, employment or apprenticeships. From this course you could look to progress onto a Marketing HE course or an Apprenticeship.

My courses were all especially interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. All of my lecturers were extremely knowledgeable and I have learnt a lot from them.

Lottie Warren, A Level student

I’m really happy and pleased with my grades. I really loved my time at the college, I have also made lots of friends, it’s a really nice place to be, I don’t want to leave.

Lauren Piper, A Level student

I’m very, very happy, I didn’t expect to do so well. The College has been helpful and supportive. I loved my courses, and the teachers were really good – every single one of them. The facilities are great, but it’s the staff that really make this place.
