Overview

The broad purpose of the occupation is to provide specialist technical support for engineers, so that organisations can develop, produce or test new/existing products, processes or procedures to meet a customer specification in terms of quality, cost and delivery, as efficiently and effectively as possible. Engineering Manufacturing Technicians gather information and data from a range of sources and analyse the information/data. They will make decisions, solve problems and produce and/or update technical documentation, reports or specifications covering areas such as quality, reliability, production schedules/targets, costing or other technical documentation that informs others, either internally or externally what needs to be done such as how a product must be designed, manufactured, tested, modified, maintained, stored, transported, commissioned or decommissioned.Engineering Manufacturing Technicians can be office based, manufacturing/plant-based or more commonly combination of both, working with engineering and/or manufacturing teams at an operational level such as with production team leaders and/or management level working with specialist quality or design engineers. As well as liaising with internal colleagues, they may also be responsible for working directly with customers and/or suppliers or with representatives from appropriate regulatory bodies.

Our expectation is that all Apprentices should already possess English and Mathematics to a GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent. However, we will consider applicants without these grades subject to an initial assessment with one of the Apprenticeship Team.A Level 3 qualification in a similar sector or significant experience is also required for this qualification.

Day release, one day a week at HSDC for taught lessons and four days at your place of work for on the job training and learning with a monthly visit from your Apprenticeship Assessor.42 months and 1-3 months End Point Assessment period.

Apprentices can be taught via classroom delivery, work-based learning/assessment, and vocational “on and off the job training”. This is always dependent on the course requirements, the preferences of the business and the wishes of the learner.

Observation and professional discussion.

On completion, Apprentices can pursue careers such as a Manufacturing Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Production Engineer, Manufacturing Procurement Engineer, Quality Engineer, Costing Engineer, Test and Commissioning Engineer, Installation Engineer, Process Engineer or Production Support Engineer.

Opportunities may exist to gain professional accreditation in your chosen field post completion of the qualification. Your Assessor will support you with information on gaining professional accreditation. As we work with Apprentices that are already employed, if you attend our day release programmes you will mix with a diverse range of businesses with Apprentices in the same sector.
