Overview

You will cover cutting, perming, styling and colouring men’s and women’s hair using L’Oréal Matrix products. You will work on clients in a professional salon environment which will prepare you to work in the industry. You will complete work-related industry placements, which in the past has led our previous students to secure themselves employment in the industry.

Three GCSEs at grade 3 and GCSE grade 4 in Science.

All students will be expected to comply with the hairdressing industry standards of dress code; this applies to both theory and practical lessons. Students will be required to attend all lessons in full hairdressing dress code. Jewellery and facial piercings are not acceptable and must be removed before entering classes.

To enrol on this Adult Learning course you must be aged 18 years or over.

The units you will cover include:

  • Working in the hair industry
  • Health and safety
  • Client consultation
  • Promoting products
  • Cutting women’s hair
  • Colouring hair
  • Art of dressing hair
  • Cutting men’s hair

You will be taught in a realistic salon environment by lecturers with vast experience within the industry. Your practical lessons will be in a fully working salon which is open to the public. You will have the chance to enter into competition work. You will have practical assessments for each unit to do in the salons and a theory exam for each practical unit.

You will be internally assessed for your practical units and externally assessed for theory exams.

If you achieve a Merit grade or higher on this course, you can progress onto Level 3 Hairdressing. Alternatively, you can progress into full-time employment or an Apprenticeship.

Katie Whittingham, A Level student

College is definitely worth all the effort you put in, you get to meet lots of different people and it’s amazing.

Ebony Puttock, A Level student

The teaching and support was absolutely brilliant, they couldn’t have done anything more or anything better, if I had any questions my lecturers would always stay behind to help me if I needed it and their emails were always open, it was second to none. This college is the best by far.
