The qualification is for aspiring actors and theatre makers, who want to learn the professional standards required to move into industry, onto drama school, or begin creating work as an emerging theatre company.You will automatically become a member of ‘Pivotal Performance Company’, a multidisciplinary performers company, engaged in the study and realisation of creative work which explores contemporary and innovative performance practice.The course is intended as a professional foundation in performance practices and will provide you with an opportunity to create your own theatre company, learning the process of crowdfunding and seeking performance opportunities. You will also be aided in the development of your personal professional toolkit by creating showreels, voicereels, contrasting headshots and career progression mentoring.
The Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance course has also developed strong progression routes with Federation of Drama Schools (FDS) accredited higher education providers, supporting students to progress to some of the UK’s leading drama schools. Seeing Italia Conti, Court Theatre and Oxford School of Drama coming in to audition students directly at college to support their progression. This has seen our progression success rate for entry to world-leading drama schools to be consistently high, with recent alumni currently studying at East 15, LAMDA, Rose Bruford, Italia Conti, Guildhall, Central School of Speech & Drama & Drama Studio.
You will require:
– 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, – 120 UCAS points from a full Level 3, Extended Diploma in Performing Arts qualification or an equivalent A Level programme, – Entry also includes an interview and successful audition.
The course is designed for students with a strong performance or theatre production background, who are aiming to create their own innovative theatre, or are aiming to progress into the industry or drama school. The units are designed to encourage you to explore and develop your creativity through stimulating skill classes, masterclasses and project creations across the performing arts disciplines. The course will allow for multiple performance and directorial opportunities throughout the year, which will culminate in you creating your own theatre company, crowdfunding and taking a piece of original theatre out on tour to fringe festivals, allowing you to begin your journey as a self employed creative in your own right.

The focus areas are: – Building a Theatre Company, – Funding Opportunities & Crowdfunding, – Professional Standards, – Progression Mentoring & Audition Preparation, – Development of Facilitation & Directorial skills, – Professional Toolkit Building – Showreel, Voicereel & Headshots, – Contemporary Performance Methods & Practitioner Study, – Playwriting & Screenwriting Workshops, – Acting Skills, – Voice Technique, – Movement Technique, – Technical & Production Knowledge Development.
The course will take place over four days per week with evening and extra commitments coming during performance weeks. Your average week will see a range of practical sessions, seminars, workshops and lecturers that link into each project upon the course. You will take part in skills sessions that allow development in all disciplines of the performing arts, and allows you to expand your repertoire of skills.
The specialist facilities include two large dance studios, a rehearsal and performance black box studio and a fully functioning and flexible black box theatre with a seating capacity of 160.
There will be several trips to cutting edge theatre in London over the course of the year.
You will take part in an industry week, where you will meet with working professionals who will offer workshops, talks and career development advice. You will also get the opportunity to perform a contemporary and classical monologue, in front of a panel of industry professionals, who will give you instant feedback and development that will aid in drama school applications.
You will be assessed in a variety of ways including tutor observation of your practical skills in workshops, rehearsals and performances. You will receive regular feedback and guidance.
You will also submit a portfolio of evidence in a form of your choice including presentations, written essays, vlogs and reflective journals.
Key assessments are based on: – Practical performance skills, – Collaborative project work, – Performance portfolio including research, critical reflection and evaluation.

Course cost: FREE (£4,670 if over 19 years old).
Successful students have gone on to pursue the following careers: actor, performer, performance facilitator and movement/ theatre director. Students have also progressed to university or Conservatoire to undertake Higher Education.
It is possible to progress directly from this course on to Year 2 of an Arts degree at the University of Portsmouth, allowing you to save money by not paying the first year university fees.

‘PIVOTAL PERFORMANCE COMPANY’
As a company member of Pivotal, you will be involved in works directed and choreographed by experienced staff, in the creation of discipline based projects informed by a shared artistic theme or topic, blending, acting, dance and song to extend your insight into multidisciplinary performance work. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate in student-led work, defining your own personal interest and area of expertise in your final showcase.
You will apply professional standards and showcase your creative work on stage in our South Downs Campus Theatre. In addition you will have the opportunity to tour your work to an external venue.
