Getting Ahead

Graphic Design A Level at Alton Campus

We’re looking forward to you joining the Graphic Design A Level in September! In preparation, we have created the below prep work for you to get stuck into over the summer and to give you an idea of what is to come for you on your course.

Email your finished document to cara.crowcombe@alton.hsdc.ac.uk and / or darrell.kingsley@alton.hsdc.ac.uk

Research and gather information about 10 key events throughout history that had an impact on graphic design. Give a brief overview of the event (roughly 2 – 3 sentences) and the date. The pictures below will give you some clues…

There are 3 categories of information that you should look for:

· Technological developments (relating to graphic design)

· Important events in history (social, cultural, historical)

· Art movements & styles

Note: you do not need to get 10 of each category, just 10 events overall.

Arrange the events in chronological order (bullet points is fine!) on a Google doc or Word document. Include any relevant pictures.

Leave a space between your events – we are going to use these by cutting up the information and pictures, to create a timeline in your first lesson on induction day!

Email your finished document to cara.crowcombe@alton.hsdc.ac.uk and / or tozzy.bridger@alton.hsdc.ac.uk

The teaching has been really good, I’ve loved all of my teachers, they’ve all been really nice and supportive.

My time at the college was definitely life changing, I have learnt a lot of new skills, and obviously it’s a completely new experience. The support was great, there was always people there to help and try make it as easy as they can for you. The college is really fantastic, it has helped me on the way to get to what I want to achieve within my career goals.
