You will be expected to know some local businesses in order to complete this course – these can be from the area in which you live or from Alton itself.

You must choose five businesses to research – you must consider a full range and at least one must be from each of these business ownerships:

  1. Sole Trader
  2. Partnership
  3. Private Limited Company
  4. Public Limited Company
  5. The final one can be any type of ownership

What you need to find out…..

  • What do they do? (provide a service/goods, manufacturing (make goods) or provide a service)
  • How many employees do they have?
  • Can you find out their revenue? How much money do they make a year?
  • Do they trade locally, nationally or internationally?

At the moment you will have to carry out your research on the internet!

HINTS: (after the Lockdown) Market days are great for finding sole traders and partnerships. Yell.com will show you which are private (Ltd) or public (Plc) limited businesses – look for it in their names.

Useful websites:

Let’s see how much information you can collect – it will all be needed for Unit 1.

I got into both of the universities I wanted to. It happens so fast and it’s an amazing feeling when you think that all of the work you’ve done has paid off in the best way possible.

My courses were all especially interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. All of my lecturers were extremely knowledgeable and I have learnt a lot from them.

I focused and worked hard to get the grades. I had some support from my lecturer during a stressful time. The college is really good and supportive.
