Engineering National Extended Certificate Level 3 at Alton College

Are you studying Engineering T Level or Engineering BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate (also known as Subsidiary Diploma) at Alton Campus in September? If so, you’re in the right place!

We have put together this Getting Ahead work to help you prep for your course over the summer.

We look forward to you starting college with us soon!

The purpose of this activity is to start you thinking about the consequences of engineering issues and their impact on public safety. This will link to units we will cover in your first year in engineering materials, health and safety and design and mechanical principles.

Investigate and produce an A3 poster on the Chernobyl Disaster and determine the engineering issues that may have had an impact on the fire, the escape routes and the safety measures in place.

There is a useful YouTube documentary entitled ‘Surviving Disaster’ which is a very good starting point! You can watch it below.

There are lots of people at the college, each studying a diverse range of courses, people from all different areas come to study here, it creates a sense of community, there is a huge social aspect to college life across all courses.

Lee Backhouse, BTEC student

Everyone at the College was really helpful, and there’s lots of facilities, meaning it’s very easy to get your work done on time, and get good grades. The teaching and support was excellent, they were always on top of it, and made sure you got work done on time and you were challenged. Everyone is friendly and its really diverse, meaning you can get involved in lots of different things.

Conor Ward, BTEC student

My experience at the college was enjoyable and productive, with thoroughly helpful people surrounding you, an excellent experience. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was, with the work shop time and experience I had, it was a great two years preparing me for the next stage.
