You have been asked by a client to create a drawing of a third-floor extension to their house.

  1. Re-create the floor plan (look at the House Floor Plan under Resources) and create a third-floor extension that creates more “social” space and a small bathroom.
  2. Create a 500-word report to the owner of the house explaining the extension you are suggesting they add to their house.

We would like to test your knowledge on setting up and starting a construction project. This task will give you an opportunity to tell us a bit about yourself and what interests you about construction in particular.

How to Draw Floor Plans

You are part of an architectural and engineering company management team that bid for construction work in the open market. A financial institution wants to invest in a new build of four industrial units on an old factory site. You have been asked to set up a project team to take on this construction project.

  1. What professional skills will you need on the team and what will their roles be?
  2. You need to draw up an organisational structure showing the structure of the project team. (Click here for examples)
  3. In an ideal world what role on the team would you like to take and why?

I overcame a couple of barriers by working really hard to get the top grades. My experience was really good, with the course and the lecturers, the residentials and activities, together it was all really good. I had really great teaching support, I could always go to the lecturers and speak to them if I needed to.
