Be a Governor at HSDC

Could you play a leading role in the future of our College?

Governors

HSDC is a dynamic Further Education College with three main campuses at Waterlooville (South Downs), Havant and Alton serving the needs of Hampshire and the City of Portsmouth. We offer first-class facilities, an impressive record of student success and a lively, friendly atmosphere.

We are a forward-thinking tertiary provider meeting the needs of:
• c.4,500 learners studying education programmes for young people at its three main campuses
• c.1800 adult learners
• 330 apprentices, of which 90 are 16-18 years old
• c.100 learners aged 14-16 studying the school links programme
• 155 learners in receipt of high needs funding
• HSDC works with c.1500 employers and one subcontractor, Tempus Training Ltd, to provide the construction skills certification scheme (CSCS card) for adult learners.

We provide a student experience that will not be found anywhere else, it is absolutely unique! Whether students want to progress onto university, are keen to enter the world of work or want to start their own business, we are the platform to help them succeed.

We are looking for new Governors to be a part of our community and play a leading role in the future educational character, strategic direction and financial wellbeing of the College. Governors work on a voluntary basis and such a role is not only rewarding but provides the opportunity to work for the local community.

Applications are invited from all areas of the business community, but we particularly welcome those with a background in Finance, Audit or Accountancy, SEND and the Charity/Voluntary sector.

HSDC is committed to the safeguarding of students and promoting the welfare of all learners. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and successful applicants will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check in respect of both children and vulnerable adults.

Equality of opportunity and respect for all are part of the College’s principles and values and the College welcomes the benefits this diversity can bring to the organisation. However, ensuring diversity on the Board is a challenge faced by many colleges, including HSDC. We are seeking to develop and increase the diversity of our Board so that it reflects our community and those we serve and would, therefore, particularly welcome applications from those with black and ethnic minority backgrounds or with declared disabilities.

If you are interested in making a difference to the future of our College, please email jackie.eayrs@hsdc.ac.uk or write to Jackie Eayrs, Clerk to the Corporation, HSDC, Executive Services, College Road, Waterlooville, Hampshire PO7 8AA

Closing date for applications: Deadline extended to Friday 14 March 2025
