Four dedicated and creative Media students have impressed by making it to the final of World Skills UK.

Lisa Penney, Steven Cox, Adam Scott-Parker and Toby Summers wowed the judges earlier this year with their Motown music video to accompany the song ‘Nowhere to Run’ by Martha and the Vandellas.

Because of their success, the team have been invited to the UK’s biggest skills and careers event that aims to inspire young skilled stars of the future.

The unique event showcases the exciting opportunities in Further Education, skills and Apprenticeships, highlighting the vital importance of skills to economic growth in the UK.

Lecturer to the skilled students, David Cook, said: “I am so proud of my students for making it to World Skills UK Final.

“They have worked very hard to get to this stage, taking on a lot of work extra to their coursework. We are determined to do our best at the finals and, above all, enjoy the process.”

Principal and Chief Executive of Havant & South Downs College, Mike Gaston, has said how ‘fantastic’ the news is and met with the students on Thursday, 15 September to congratulate them personally.

He said: “This is fantastic news and I am delighted that our students have progressed to the UK Final of World Skills.

“They have demonstrated, as aspiring professionals, their ambition to be amongst the best in their field and achieve excellence.

“These are exactly the skills required to support better productivity in British Business and Havant & South Downs College is keen to promote that locally within our community.

“Good luck to them at the finals in November when they will battle it out to win a coveted place on the GB team.”

The HSDC team will take part in the live finals on 16 to 19 November at the NEC in Birmingham.
