Male staff at HSDC smiled through the pain on Wednesday 6 December when they took part in a sponsored leg waxing.

Five members of staff braved the hot wax and allowed 12 Level 2 Hair & Beauty students to remove their leg hair in aid of Operation Wallacea.

The fundraiser was organised by lecturer Nadine Pegley. She said: “I wanted to do something that allowed students and staff to join together for a greater good.

“The Hair & Beauty students were excellent, very professional and friendly to those who they were waxing. The girls were ambassadors for their department and HSDC, conducting themselves with professionalism, demonstrating a high level of skills and did it all with the biggest smile. It was a great success.”

Nadine has raised £225 so far from a raffle and is still collecting money from the ‘waxees’.

She continued: “It couldn’t have been a success without Sonia Ford and Glenda Jones, I am very grateful to both for everything they did on the day and all the running around!

“A huge thank you to Lois Neale who helped me facilitate the fundraiser from her area and above all else, her encouragement and support. Thank you to Andrea Beard who helped guide our donation from Tesco.”

Learning Manager Pete Budd, Course Manager Will Bowerman, Digital Learning Designer Kevin Bradshaw and George Evemy and Darren Failes from IT took part in the sponsored event.
Nadine added: “I want to express my absolute appreciation for those who volunteered. Thank you to Kevin Bradshaw for designing the poster, to Lee Hunt for his encouragement and to everyone who bought a raffle ticket.
“Sincere thanks to Marion Arkle for introducing Operation Wallacea and supporting the research project for all involved.”
