Havant & South Downs College’s LLDD football team will represent the South East in the 40th AoC Sport National Championships.

The team came together on 8 December to play against Highbury College for a spot in the national competition, and after three tough games they were declared the winners.

Kirsty Taylor, Sports Maker at HSDC, said: “This is our second year of representing the South East in LLDD football.

“Every year AOC run a national sports competition including everything from football to volleyball. You compete in teams at a regional level then from there the winning teams go on to represent their region.

“Last year was the first time ever that there has been a representation from the South East for LLDD football.

“Last Friday we competed against Highbury College and we played three 14-minute games. It was good because Highbury had some new players on their team from last year and it was clear they had been practising!”

Kirsty continued to say that after the first match Highbury College were in the lead, however the second game saw the HSDC team level the playing field after scoring two goals and winning the match.

The third decider match ended in victory for the HSDC team with a score of 4-1, winning the overall competition.

Kirsty said: “After winning the second game they came off and were so motivated to win. When they knew they had won after a 4-1 finish on the final game they were buzzing, as well as tired!

“They have a lot of work to put in now leading up to Nottingham, but they are all looking forward to it.”

The HSDC LLDD football team will compete in the AoC Sport National Championships on the 20-22 April at the University of Nottingham.
