We want to highlight the incredible companies we work with and their experience of having an apprentice with HSDC with our ‘Employer of the Month’ feature.
This month we will be talking to Park Community School who has apprentices working in the school’s kitchen.
Tell us about your business.
Park Community School is a large secondary school who has model itself on being very different. Our school tag line is ‘much more than just a school’ and we all really believe this concentrating on helping to improve our students’ lives.
How many employees do you have in your business?
250 teaching and support staff.
Why did you choose to invest the next generation through having an apprentice?
For us working within education we realised the importance of helping students progress with their lives and chosen careers. By us working with the Apprenticeship programme we have been able to develop ex students and help them move forward in their lives.
How many apprentices do you have?
We currently have two apprentices with one former student due to enrol from September.
Why have you chosen to take on an apprentice through HSDC?
The College is the best for catering in our opinion and students really get a great experience working with College staff. Being a former South Downs College student myself I hold the College in high regard.
How has having an apprentice benefited your business?
We believe that we offer our students a safe and professional working environment which can help progress them through their qualification at learners’ rate of learning.
What would your apprentice say about working for you?
‘It’s a very fun kitchen with different things going on all the time which really helps keep you interested and on your toes.’
