HSDC Hair and Beauty students showed off their ‘fantasy’ themed looks when their models took to the catwalk on 11 February.

Students from across the Hair and Beauty courses were tasked with creating ‘total looks’ inspired by the fantasy theme, which were presented to members of the public in the HSDC Theatre on the South Downs Campus. Some had to do everything from make-up, costume and choreography whilst others had to produce a mood board and imitate this design on the model.

Lecturer Dawn Richardson described what this show meant to the students in her Level 3 technical qualification: “Students on these courses have to complete lots of assessments. The great thing with this show is that they have their own ideas and what they put together is their own interpretation of ‘fantasy’”.

Sophie Linter, who will finish her Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical and Media Make-up this July, said: “I really want to go into fashion make-up for runways, so this experience has been really good for me and I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma student Mason Kemish said that the show “is the highlight of the year so far. It is the biggest thing I’ve done; I’ve never had to create a full look before. It really helps us to improve.”

Hairdressing lecturer Donna Clifford has been immensely impressed with the students this year – “they are all producing quality work and the standards this year are really high. They have gone all out on their preparation this year.”
