Students on Alton College’s L3 Creative Practice, Art, Design and Communication course were recently treated to an immersive, industry-focused experience. The College proudly welcomed three exceptional practising artists and designers to share their invaluable insights into navigating and thriving within today’s dynamic creative industries.

The week kicked off with a series of deeply inspiring talks. Guest creatives Sarah Cox, Nathan Ward, and Sarah Metcalfe generously shared their personal career journeys, offering students a realistic look into the industry alongside a wealth of motivational advice. Following engaging Q&A sessions, students immediately channelled that inspiration into action, diving into a series of fabulous, hands-on masterclasses.
From experimental mark-making and vibrant watercolour techniques to structural 3D construction, the workshops truly pushed boundaries. Students grabbed the opportunity to experience entirely new ways of working, successfully building their technical skills and expanding their artistic processes.

Students created a variety of different paper flowers, to be displayed in a paper vase at reception.
Charmian Thomas, who teaches on the Creative Practice Course, said:
“It’s been an amazing week. The students have been exposed to hearing first hand from specialists about their experience within the arts and have gained tips on how to thrive and succeed in the creative industries. Workshops have provided a rich and exciting visual language to extend their skills.”
Alton College extends a huge thank you to Sarah Cox, Nathan Ward, and Sarah Metcalfe for bringing their incredible expertise, energy, and enthusiasm to our studios. This week has truly empowered the next generation of creatives, leaving them equipped with the confidence, skills, and vision to shape their own bright futures in the creative arts.
